Lyrics
Bering Strait
We longed for something warmer, then the sun came falling down
It rained a nuclear summer on our town
We longed for something colder, then the ice age came around
Now we’re sowing frozen seeds in barren ground
Peering through the window you are framed in hues of green
The birds are singing songs like they know what is clean
Your breath dissolves, my heart collapse, the machine keeps
pumping steam
I am here just dreaming about what it is you dream
Shouldn’t we laugh - Shouldn’t we love
Shouldn’t we accept that we are humans after all
Shouldn’t we build - Should we not call this home
You know that it feels like home, whenever we’re alone
Now we are running faster through an electronic maze
We are burning brighter, but the darkness fills our gaze
We are sinking slowly, but we are floating just the same
We are sinking slowly, but we’re floating just the same
There’s poetry in everything and this is the extreme
While everything is burning up we still find ways to dream
Yes poetry is everywhere, in laughter and in screams
We get to hear it all, while forced down to our knees
Shouldn’t we plant - Shouldn’t we grow
Shouldn’t we accept that what is green is also gold
Shouldn’t we care - Shouldn’t we live
Shouldn’t we enjoy that what is ours is ours to give
Should we just leave it all behind
Just cast loose and let the waters lead us down
Or can we find our own way out
Out of the Bering Strait and into warmer grounds
