Lyrics

Bones

They ordered every store to close
So gold could be for none of those
That try to do the right thing even though they know it's wrong
You lay your name one brick a time
You speak your words but not your mind
You break your skulls on dashboards of these old familiar lies
Me I try to keep an open blind
So I can see you passing by
You, and them, and everyone, that think that they exist
But worlds are changed most every day
And in the end we all must pay
The danger lies in new ideas, not weapons, force or fists

So who’s gonna ride
The wave when it comes
And who’s gonna hide
Beneath all of them bones

You try to keep your little smiles intact
But snakes don’t smile, nor does the rats
There’s terror ‘round the corner but your roads have only curves
They drown themselves in caviar
Hitch their wagon to your bar
And drink themselves to sleep in there, while picking up their nerves
Me I sleep myself to sanity
You all bore me to death you see
With pain, and shame, and morally ambiguous defeats
But everyone spends everything
And who are we to talk of sin
Born into oblivion, enchanted, obsolete

So who’s gonna ride
The wave when it comes
And who’s gonna hide
Beneath all of them bones
